Ingredients
  

  • 1 (15oz.) can tomato sauce ( no sugar added)
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (if using)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Wooden spoon
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Measuring spoons

Method
 

  1. Add olive oil to a saucepan on the stove over medium heat.
  2. Add garlic and stir-fry for 1–2 minutes, or until it is fragrant.
  3. Stir in tomato sauce and paste until smooth.
  4. Season with oregano, basil, onion powder, salt, pepper, and chili flakes (if using).
  5. Turn down the heat and simmer for 10–15 minutes until thickened and tasty.
  6. Remove from heat. Either use immediately, or cool completely and store.

Notes

Use an immersion blender to puree it for a creamier sauce.
Season to taste — a little more basil if it needs sweetness, a dash or two of chili flakes if you want heat.
Refrigerate for 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
